I attended Ohio State's graduate program in design, a transdisciplinary program with a strong emphasis on research. Following the Research + Development track, my work focused on educational game design, communicating complex information, and designing for education. My graduate committee was Peter Chan, Liz Sanders, and Paul Nini. I was chosen as the graduate program's sole representative at the AIGA Design Educators conference in 2008, and presented my research at two international conferences. In 2008, I was elected to the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. 105 credits.
In 2004, I was invited to participate in the SMFA's post-baccalaureate program, and offered grant funding from the school to attend. Studio programs at SMFA are based on a self-designed curriculum. I chose to concentrate on painting and critical theory, taking studio courses in advanced painting, portraiture, figuration, and seminars in art theory & history. My major teachers included Patte Loper, Nan Freeman, and Ron Rizzi. In 2008, I was interviewed and featured in the New York Times in an article on post-baccalaureate art programs. 34 credits.
UNH offers a comprehensive education in visual arts including BA, BFA, MFA, and MAT degrees. BA students are not required to declare a concentration, but I chose to focus my coursework on 2D areas: drawing & painting and photography. My major teachers included Jennifer Moses and Grant Drumheller. Additional, notable coursework included classes in Arts Administration, Mass Communication, Humanities, and Music (performance ensembles). While a student, I was employed as a graphic designer with the university's Student Press. 138 credits.
