Design Drawing & Concept Visualization / DES 205
University of Wisconsin–Stout This course is an introduction to drawing as a design tool and means for communication, description, and the problem solving process in the context of Industrial, Interior, and Graphic Design, Interactive Media, Game Design, Animation, Cinema, and Comics & Sequential Art. Emphasis is placed on sketching and drawing as tools to explore, analyze and communicate design concepts and design processes. Projects include conceptual assignments as well as technical, and often incorporate narrative. The course begins with basic perspective exercises and evolves toward more complex concepts including spatial thinking, texture rendering, and narrative analysis. Media include graphite and wax-based pencil, technical pen, and alcohol markers. |
Descriptive + Analytical Drawing / DES 201
The Ohio State University This course is the first in a series of three foundation-level drawing courses for students in Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communication Design. It aims to develop skills in visual thinking, problem solving, and effective communication of ideas. It serves as an introduction to freehand drawing as a skill to communicate characteristics of a people, places, and things as they pertain to the disciplines of design. This course is an observational design drawing course, with emphasis on drawing as a tool for recording, analyzing, and communicating visual information. Assignments are designed to familiarize students with observational contour drawing, cross-contour drawing, and tonal reductive drawing techniques, culminating in a visual narrative project based on the idea of task analysis. |
Graphic Thinking / DES 203
The Ohio State University This course is the third in a series of three foundation-level drawing courses for students in Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communication Design. Its context is a continuation of the media, processes, techniques and skills developed in the two preceding courses, and serves as an introduction to conceptual drawing and spatial thinking. Students are given the necessary tools to help them learn skills for conceptual drawing, such as perspective, spatial thinking, texture rendering, and narrative analysis. Emphasis is placed on sketching and drawing as tools to explore, analyze and communicate design concepts and design processes. |
