Andrew Boysen, Jr. / Composer Erik A. Evensen / Visual Artist Twilight of the Gods is a collaboration with composer Andrew Boysen, Jr. It depicts the story of the Ragnarok myth from Norse mythology. Twilight of the Gods was commissioned by a consortium of universities, community colleges, high schools, and community bands and premiered at the College Band Directors National Conference, W/NW Division, in Reno, NV in March, 2010. It has since been performed by some of the nation's leading concert bands, including the University of Nevada, Ohio State University, Albion College, and Concordia College. While similar works have had visual elements produced for the music, or music written based on visual art, Twilight of the Gods is different. The creative process behind the piece was truly collaborative, with both artists working together to interpret the narrative from translations of the Prose Edda and Poetic Edda. Visual and musical sketches were storyboarded concurrently from the narrative, similar to an animated movie. In addition to its performances, Twilight of the Gods has been incorporated as a teaching tool in the Norse Religion class at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, and as a multimedia art piece in exhibition.
